The Glebe Farm
The Glebe Farm is a traditional family-run farm in the Highlands of
Scotland. We are situated near Boat of Garten, in the centre of the
Cairngorms National Park. The 1000-acre farm is home to 80 cows, 400
ewes, 20 fattening pigs, and 100 hens.
The Glebe is run by Rob MacKenzie, and son Bob. We take pride in our
livestock and make every effort to ensure we produce the best possible
product for our customers.
Cattle
Our cattle are reputed to be some of the best in the valley and we work
hard to keep that good name. We use only the best bulls of a range of
different breeds, including Belgian Blues, Limousin, Aberdeen Angus,
Charlois. About half of our young stock is sold through Aberdeen and
northern markets at Thainstone, while the rest are kept at the farm.
We also sell stock privately from time to time, so please contact us
by email about this to arrange a visit.
Sheep
We have 400 breeding ewes at the Glebe, most of which are Cheviot or
Scottish Blackface. Our lambs are fed on grass and, later in the year,
on turnips. Like our cattle, some of the lambs are sold through Thainstone
market.
We also breed a small number of Suffolk, Texel and Cross Tups, with
most sold privately. If you are interested in this, please email to
arrange a visit.
Pigs and Chickens
Throughout the year we fatten between 35 and 40 pigs. We buy piglets
aged about six weeks. The animals are reared naturally and are given
time to mature, enhancing the flavour that pork has.
Our 100 hens are free range, and free spirited. They are corn-fed to
enhance the flavour of their eggs, which supply the shop all year round. If
